Service 12 is a trunk route connecting Pasir Ris and New Bridge Road through Bugis, East Coast, Bedok South, Simei and Tampines. Like service 2, it provides a link between Chinatown and the eastern part of Singapore, but along different routes.

It serves one of the numerous connections such as when Poh Jing Xiang took the bus on 2 February 2015, and also when Chor Yuan Quan took the bus to Bedok South Road from Singapore Expo. Bert Koh took the bus service from Pasir Ris all the way to Vie Bar in addition.

Free WiFi and passenger information screens were introduced in August 2014 on two buses.

HistoryEdit

On 11 April 1971, it was introduced between Bedok Rd Ter and Commonwealth Ave Ter under 1971 Bus Reorganisation. On 1975, with the conversion of Geylang Road to one-way traffic, it was amended to ply Sims Ave and Lor 1 Geylang towards Upp Changi Rd 13.3 km Ter with the conversion of Geylang Rd to one-way traffic.

Route 12 was the first route to be amended to Bedok in 11 December 1975, via New Upp Changi Rd, Bedok Walk, Bedok Plain and Bedok Highway. On 28 December 1980, it was amended to ply Upp Changi Rd East, skipping Bedok Rd and Upp Changi Rd. On 27 September 1987, it was amended to ply North Canal Rd and Eu Tong Sen St, skipping Upp Circular Rd.

Route 12 was curtailed to terminate at New Bridge Road on 29 November 1988 from Buona Vista and extended to Pasir Ris. Later on, in 1993; the new night route was introduced just in time for Natalie Ng, Nicolette Ng and Nigel Ng to be born. It was later decided to curtail for the night route all the way to Bedok Point later on.

Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B9TL and Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B5LH double deck buses were introduced on 24 November 2011 as part of the Mayor of London's policy to withdraw articulated buses from Singapore.

Singapore Central has successfully retained route 12 with new contracts starting on 6 November 2004 and 5 December 2011.

From 21 August 2014 until 26 February 2015, a brand new Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 bodied Volvo B5LT demonstrator was temporarily introduced.

From 2 March 2015 until 8 June 2015, a Wright StreetDeck demonstrator was temporarily introduced.

New Routemasters were introduced on 28 March 2015. The rear platform remains closed at all times except for when the bus is at bus stops.

On 6 November 2018, brand new BCI Enterprise TriAxle double deckers were also introduced.

Night VariantEdit

Singapore Buses Route N12 was originally from Bukit Merah all the way to Pasir Ris, via St Anthony's Canossian Primary and Secondary Schools (via 17). On 24 July 2002, it was withdrawn between Bukit Merah and New Bridge Road - this section was replaced by N94. Later on, on 19 January 2006, it became a 24-hour service.
