Pasir Ris Bus Interchange (Chinese: 巴西立巴士转换站) is a bus interchange located at Pasir Ris in the eastern part of Singapore. It is adjacent to Pasir Ris MRT Station. This bus interchange also serves as a pick-up/drop-off point for shuttle buses ferrying NSF men heading to the SAF Ferry Terminal for their shuttle ferry to Pulau Tekong.
History[]
The interchange was built at a cost of S$2.7 million and opened on 10 December 1989, along with the Eunos Bus Interchange. The interchange provides bus connections around the Pasir Ris estate. Bus Service 403 was the first bus route in Pasir Ris from 1979, which previously terminated at Tampines Road terminus before being amended to the current route of looping at Pasir Ris Road.
Redevelopment[]
Redevelopment of Pasir Ris Bus Interchange has started since 2019. A Temporary Bus Interchange will be completed by 2021, after which the western half of the old bus interchange will be demolished to facilitate the construction of the Pasir Ris Integrated Transport Hub and Pasir Ris Rail Turnback, which will be completed by 2025, five years before the Cross Island MRT line starts operations. The reconfigured interchange will begin operations on 3 July 2021 with inclusive facilities built as part of the relocation. The facility will remain in operation until 2025.
The press release and interchange signages refer to East and West loops of Service 358 and 359 using the ‘E’ and ‘W’ suffix. It remains to be seen if the electronic display signs on buses will be reprogrammed to reflect this change.
The reconfigured interchange is bordered by Pasir Ris Drive 3, Pasir Ris Central, Pasir Ris Central Street 3 and Pasir Ris MRT. It retains the existing eastern half of Pasir Ris Bus Interchange, with a new concourse extension built to accommodate 23 end-on berth lots and a new dedicated pick-up and drop-off point for the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), named BMT@Pasir Ris, for the frequent shuttle buses that operate between the interchange and the SAF Ferry Terminal near Changi Beach.
Interchange facilities affected by the partial demolition will also be relocated to the new concourse extension, such as the Passenger Service Office, interchange offices, the NTWU canteen, and public toilets.
The modification works to the existing eastern portion of Pasir Ris Bus Interchange include:
- Retaining of existing boarding Berth B3
- Converting alighting Berth B1 & B2 into boarding berths
- Construction of new alighting berths A1 & A2
