Lorong 1 Geylang Bus Terminal

Lorong 1 Geylang Bus Terminal

Lorong 1 Geylang Bus Terminal (Chinese: 巷巴1芽笼士终站) is a bus terminal located within the Kallang planning area, at the eastern border with Geylang. Named after the road it is adjacent to, it sits opposite the Kallang MRT Station.

The terminal was originally a fringe car park. In 1975, it was planned as a Park and Ride terminal. Under the Park and Ride scheme, drivers will park the cars and then ride on the City Shuttle Service to the Central Business District. The services ran daily (except Sunday) during peak hours for 50 cents a ride. However, the Park and Ride Scheme did not prove to be very popular. Due to low ridership, the terminal was converted to a public bus terminal in 1988 and handed over to SBS Transit and Trans-Island Bus Services. In 1998, Crawford Street Bus Terminal was shutdown and its bus services were relocated to this terminal.

The terminal design is based on one whereby a small boarding and alighting area and terminal office are located within space largely reserved for bus parking space, as opposed to contemporary interchanges where terminal space dominate. Its location just outside the central restricted zone has part of early bus routings aimed at reducing congestion in the central area by siting terminals at the fringes instead of having a large number of bus routes congregating in downtown terminals.

This terminal is also a resting point for the de-registered SMRT Buses vehicles, such as Dennis Lance 245, Nissan Diesel U31RCN, Scania L113CRL, DAF SB220 and Mercedes-Benz O405 vehicles.
