A member of the dominant political party People's Action Party (PAP), he is currently a member of parliament for the Pasir Ris-Punggol Group Representation Constituency, or GRC in short. Gan is married with two children.[1]

Early life and education[]

Gan Thiam Poh was born in Singapore on 23 October 1963.[1] He was posted to Mee Toh Primary School, which he graduated from in 1975, for his primary education. Thereafter, he attended Hwi Yoh Secondary School and Outram Secondary School, passing both his GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations. Gan went on to obtain a Higher Stage Group Diploma in Accounting, Costing and Business Statistics from The London Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1983 and a Bachelor of Science for Economics, Mathematics and Computer Programming and Applications from the National University of Singapore in 1988. In 2003, he received a Certificate in English/Chinese Translation and Interpretation from Temasek Polytechnic.[1]

Career[]

Since 2002, Gan has worked at DBS Bank as its Senior Vice-President. He previously worked at Maybank, followed by UOB.[1]

For fifteen years, Gan worked as at the Potong Pasir GRC as a low-paid volunteer, earning only $2.50 an hour.[2] Now a member of the Singapore-based political party People's Action Party, abbreviated as PAP, Gan was officially sworn in to parliament as Member of Parliament (MP) for the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC on 7 May 2011, following the general election of that year.[1]

Personal life[]

Gan is a Buddhist and is married with two children. He resides in Singapore.[1]
