Tampines 1 is a shopping mall in the east of Singapore located beside the Tampines. The mall opened on 1 April 2009 and is managed by Frasers Property, spread over five storeys and one basement.
History[]
The mall opened on 9 April 2009, construction began in March 2007 after the DBS Tampines Centre filled with Spotlight was demolished. On April 6, 2009, UNIQLO opened its first outlet in Singapore, until 17 January 2021.
In 2012, with the Manpuku closure, it was replaced by Daiso, and Sony Style was replaced by MOF My Izakaya (later renamed to MOF Danro in 2016). MUJI replaced More Than Words store.
The Payless ShoeSource was replaced by Sephora in 12 October 2014. Later on, with the Topshop closure, it was being replaced by The Editor's Market, and with the Forever New closure, it was replaced by UOB Bank.
The total development cost of the project was estimated to be S$450 million and was upgraded from 17 March 2012 to 10 November 2012. New tenant mix is MOF (My Izakuya), MUJI and Daiso.
On 13 April 2019, shoppers at the mall were shocked when the bottom steps of the moving escalator collapsed. Four people were boarded when the accident occurred. It was the bottom parts already broken. The stroller wheels that are not folded are the culprit, with rules including the push-carts must be folded.
Tampines 1 had received such changes. In September 2014, Payless ShoeSource was closed down, replaced by Sephora. In March 2015, New Look was closed down, replaced by Browhaus. In 2017, both Forever New and Topshop were replaced by The Editor's Market, UOB Bank and HSBC Bank due to high rental. With the closure of all Esprit stores on 7 April 2020, Playdress took over the space. Don Don Donki took over the Uniqlo and Browhaus shop space and will be opening on 22 October 2021.
