Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange is an bus interchange which mainly serves the residential neighbourhood of Choa Chu Kang. It is located at Choa Chu Kang Loop and connected to Choa Chu Kang MRT/LRT Station and the Lot One Shoppers' Mall. Opened in 1990, this bus interchange is one of the oldest surviving bus interchanges in Singapore to remain intact from re-modification while still in service.
History[]
Choa Chu Kang used to have a roadside bus terminal along Choa Chu Kang Way. It was later replaced by a bus interchange built beside the MRT Station. Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange opened in 1990 and remains operational today with little modifications.
BSEP Feeder Enhancements[]
On 25 April 2015, Feeder 301 was reintroduced and rerouted under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) plying along Choa Chu Kang Way, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 2 and Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3, together with the introduction of Trunk Service 983 plying through Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5 via Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4. Feeder 300 was then amended to skip Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5.
On 15 May 2016, Feeder 308 was introduced under Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) plying through Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7, Choa Chu Kang Grove and Keat Hong Link.
Redevelopment[]
A recent contract has been awarded for the shifting of Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange into the air-conditioned bus interchange at Choa Chu Kang, near to Lot One, and provide a new hotel. The shifting will allow the construction of Jurong Region Line to take place.
Long known to be a temporary bus interchange, the relocation of Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange to its new facility appears to be the first time that the LTA has dropped the usage of "Temporary Bus Interchange" namesake. It is perhaps due to the connotation that the Temporary Bus Interchanges will be shortly replaced by newer, permanent Integrated Transport Hubs, which has not been the case in the past, like Punggol Temporary Bus Interchange (which opened in 2003 and even received an expansion in 2017). In addition, Jurong East Bus Interchange will be relocated for a second time within a few short years, after plans to integrate the bus interchange within a new nearby development did not come to fruition. The new hub will be built at the site of the first Temporary Bus Interchange.
Presently, the LTA is reviewing the redevelopment plans for Choa Chu Kang Town Centre, which will indicate that it will be developed into an Integrated Transport Hub.
